About Us

Liz & Paul had their first Ridgeback (Sonny) from the Wiljoe Kennel from Alf and Joan Coventry in 1987. Wiljoe Ollie followed eighteen months later from the same kennel. When Ollie was 18 months old, Kim (Ch Sansilver Diamond Life of Kiromol) came to us from David & Linda Seaman (Sansilver) and she was the foundation bitch of our kennel today. Sadly, Sonny was to die very young and of course we were heartbroken. We were left then with Kim and Ollie, and we also welcomed into our pack a Segugio Italiano called Roma. Hence our kennel name was born – KI from Kim, ROM from Roma, and OL from Ollie.

Kiromol bred their first litter in 1994, which was when our affix was first registered. In those days, you did your apprenticeship before being granted a kennel name.

Kim gained 3 CC’s and 2 Reserve CC’s, and won consistently at both championship and open show level. She was to be the first Champion at the Kiromol kennel.

Back in 1979 whilst still in Sweden, Lena Piehl had her first Ridgeback, Texas, from the Afrikana kennel. Texas won consistently in Sweden, Norway and Finland. Lena, Texas and Family then moved to the UK. Texas was then joined by Aioli from the Selby’s Eilack kennel, who was in turn joined by Mozart and then Kenzo from the Matabelle kennel (Sue Simper).

Kobi joined the Piehl Family in 2003 from Kiromol, followed by Amani in 2006 and Bhali in 2009. Liz, Paul and Lena have had a very deep friendship for around 25 years. Paul and Liz then decided it was time to make things more official…

2011 started with Lena Piehl officially joining the Kiromol Kennel. Between the three of us, we have over 50 years experience with Rhodesian Ridgebacks.

Liz started judging Ridgebacks in 1994. Liz is passed to award Challenge Certificates here in the UK and awarded her first set of CC's at Southern Counties Championship Show on 1st June 2013. Liz has also awarded CAC's in Holland.

Our bloodlines combine the best of English, Swedish, American, Kenyan, Dutch, Australian and Belgian ancestry. And now with Jera joining us, we hope to introduce her Canadian lines into our breeding programme in due course.

We have taken great care in selecting the right stud dogs to compliment our bitches, choosing only dogs with sound conformation, excelling in the free movement our hounds are renowned for, and of course the most soundest of temperaments.

We are proud to have maintained the type and temperament we believe is laid down in the Standard for the Rhodesian Ridgeback.
